Our Mission is to clean up fishing line and tackle from the environment. Once we have all power lines cleaned up, we also want to see what's going on under the water.
My name is Marty. I relocated to the coastal bend in 2020. One of the first things I noticed shortly after settling in was the fishing line tangled in the overhead power lines near popular fishing spots. It has been very hard to ignore. I soon noticed that occasionally birds will get caught in the fishing line and remain there until they die. One morning, while heading toward the ferry from Aransas, I saw a seagull hanging about 5 ft above the water, and it was still alive. When I returned in the late afternoon, the seagull was still alive, but now it was on the water's surface, still entangled in the fishing line. I parked as close as I could and walked over to where the bird was trapped. I managed to free the seagull and placed it in some tall grass since it was too weak to fly away.
I feel a strong urge to take action. I believe I possess the skills that could be effectively utilized to clean up this mess. I enjoy designing stuff and printing them with a 3D printer; hence, I’ve been contemplating an idea for a vehicle that could be hoisted to a power line and then ride along it, suspended from a pulley. This vehicle would be equipped with a hot wire capable of melting the fishing line. As the simple vehicle moves along the power line, the hot wire will come into contact with the fishing line hanging down, and in a boat, we will catch the tackle so that it doesn’t fall into the water. Once this RC vehicle is designed, it will be relatively easy to go around and clean all the power lines in the area and maybe even along the entire gulf coast.
At first I thought about starting a go-fund-me to raise funds for the operation, but then I decided to start selling all my designed gadgets to the public instead. I have designed some really cool things which I honestly can't imagine doing without. I'm a general contractor by trade, so I see plenty of opportunity to design stuff to make my work easier. Some things I design is extremely custom like the stair stringer square and the jig for cutting dimensional lumber to create a low slope roof under a deck. I also have stuff for the kitchen for those who like to cook. If you have an Intex above ground XTR frame swimming pool - the Intex pool sold by Academy - you have got to have the cup holders I make. It works great. I have plenty more ideas to come. Please keep checking back.
